Best Mountain Bike Camera: Insta360 ONE R

When it comes to capturing your line, you’ll need a mountain bike camera that’s fit for the job. In this blog, we’ll show you why Insta360 ONE R can take your MTB content to the next level.

Swappable Lenses
Pick a lens for your line. Whether it’s the Dual-Lens 360 Mod to capture all your surroundings, or a wide-angle lens for that classic action cam look.

Shots that make ONE R the go-to mountain bike camera.
Shot 1: The Unicorn Shot
With this technique, it’s like a drone is keeping pace with your run. Insta360 ONE R keeps the stick invisible in your shots, it’s mounted to the helmet here, but you’d never know from the end result.

Just mount ONE R on your helmet and point the rod right ahead of you, almost like a unicorn’s horn.

Shot 2: Slow Mo
Once you’ve mastered mounting your ONE R creatively, try slowing down the action on key parts of your run.

Shot 3: The Classic MTB Action Cam Shot
If you fancy that classic action camera look for your line, you can always swap out to the 4K Wide-Angle Mod mounted to the chest mount, or mount the 360 Mod to the chest mount and lock the direction facing forward.

FlowState Stabilization on ONE R is ideal for rough terrain. Check out how smooth that fooatage turns out, no gimbal needed.

Shot 4: The FreeCapture Shot
The beauty of 360 is that you don’t have to aim your camera at all. Just frame it later in the app. Try placing the ONE R down on a part of your run, and track yourself later in the app. Or, reframe your mounted shots at any point of your run.

And of course, you can also swap lenses to a Wide-Angle Mod for a dialled in action shot.

Shot 5: The Back Bar Shot
You can get insane video game like shots with the Back Bar. It straps around your waist, with an extension pole to hold the camera.

Shot 6: The Helmet Mount Shot
ONE R can be mounted just like a standard action cam. The difference? Unlimited field of view, reframing and super stable shots. Try mounting vertically on your helmet for this head turner.

Shot 7: The TimeShift Shot
With the ONE R app, you can control time and perspective. Mix in hyperlapses up to 16x speed, or slow it down to 1/2x speed at key moments. TimeShifts look great on pump tracks.

Shot 8: The Stats Shot
When you turn on Stats, you can select between a whole bunch of things to overlay on your video. Speed, elevation, gradient or GPS location name a few of the Stats you can overlay. This is great for tracking your run.

If you don’t want to take your phone on the trail, pick yourself up a GPS Smart Remote or use an Apple Watch to track your GPS data.

7 New Features for ONE R and Studio: Apple ProRes, Shot Lab Effects and More

ONE R users are getting a mid-summer bonus. A round of new updates is making the mobile editing workflow faster, funner and more powerful.

Plus, in July, we’ll be launching a major redesign of our desktop editor, Insta360 Studio, that’s replete with lots of new features and functionality.

With our best deal ever on the ONE R available for another two weeks, there’s never been a better time to pick one up.

Here are the highlights of the latest updates for Insta360 Studio and the Insta360 ONE R app.

Insta360 Studio Updates
1. Apple ProRes

This is a big one. In the latest version of Insta360 Studio (Windows v3.4.10, macOS v3.4.10), creators can choose to export their footage in ProRes 422.

ProRes export is supported for any footage you edit in Insta360 Studio. To learn about all the benefits of ProRes, check out Apple’s white paper.

2. Multi-Language Support

The Insta360 Community now spans more than 170 countries. It was high time we introduced support for more languages on Insta360 Studio so that more people could take advantage of it.

So that’s what we did. With the launch of version 3.5.0, Studio will support German, Spanish, Russian, French, Japanese, Portuguese, Korean, Italian, Chinese – Simplified, Chinese-Traditional and English.

3. Deep Track

Smart Track uses AI object recognition to lock onto a subject and keep them center-frame wherever they go.

It used to be mobile-exclusive. But with Studio v3.5.0 (coming in July), it’s ready for desktop workflows as well.

4. TimeShift

TimeShift is one of the most popular effects in the mobile app. It’s a unique technique that leverages ONE R’s dual-lens design to combine dynamic changes to both speed and perspective.

Studio v3.5.0 will support the ability to change playback speed for different sections of the same video clip, allowing creators to easily achieve TimeShift effects in their desktop workflow.

Introducing Insta360 App: Integrated App for ONE X and ONE R Users

It’s finally here! We’ve released an all-new super app, called simply “Insta360”. The new app will let Insta360 ONE X and Insta360 ONE R creators take advantage of more of our latest and greatest features. And this is only the start—big things are planned for this app in the future.

With an integrated app, ONE X users will be able to enjoy more new app features, updates and optimizations quicker than before.

The new app is available for both iOS users and Android users, with the same features available in both versions. By integrating the ONE X and ONE R apps, we’ll be able to deliver updates across iOS and Android operating systems easier and faster.

ONE R and ONE X users can download the app now in the App Store (version 1.3.2) or Google Play Store (version 1.3.7). The previous Insta360 ONE R app has been renamed Insta360 in the store.

What’s new with this version
The Insta360 App also brings some new updates compared to the previous Insta360 ONE R app version:

You can now adjust the keyframe position after setting them on 360 clips
You can now try out a new split-screen effect in MultiView
File sizes and app storage has been optimized, so the app takes up less space on your phone
ColorPlus has been improved to enhance the details of dark parts of photos and videos
How to start using the new Insta360 app
From now on, app updates for ONE X will be delivered exclusively via the new app, so you’re recommended to make the switch as soon as possible.

Before you do though, there are some important things to note. Any photos or videos you currently have saved in your ONE X app album will be automatically transferred to the new app. But make sure to finish and export all in-progress edits before migrating to the new app! Any in-progress edits will not be transferred to the new app and will be deleted after your content has been migrated. Export your Stories too, as saved Stories will not be transferred.

When you’re ready to migrate your content, download the new Insta360 app and the ONE X app update (iOS v2.1.2 and Android v1.7.9). Then return back to the ONE X app, open the app album and follow the steps to migrate.

You can keep your ONE X app around for a few things like gyro calibration, stitching correction and connecting to your Bluetooth remote. But for everything else, the Insta360 App can do it and more!

Insta360 ONE R Can Now Capture Matterport Virtual Tours

Matterport virtual tour creators have a new tool in their arsenal for capturing spaces in 360 degrees. Insta360 ONE R is now compatible with beta releases of the Matterport Capture app on select iOS and Android devices.

This integration brings together two of the most powerful tools on the market for creating virtual tours. Insta360 ONE R is an affordable 360-degree virtual tour camera that enables you to quickly capture a property — 1,000 square feet in just a few minutes, for example. And Matterport is the world’s leading virtual tour software, with a 3D conversion engine that automatically creates a digital twin of a property in a few hours.

The integration also comes at a time when virtual tours are in higher demand due to COVID-19 travel restrictions and social distancing guidelines. Matterport has seen more than a 100% increase in 3D models created on their platform since March.

The integration is now in beta through Matterport’s public Test Flight beta program, with the full integration available in October on iOS. To celebrate the integration, Insta360 and Matterport have also partnered together to offer 10% off the Insta360 ONE R Virtual Tour Kit and a free 2-month trial of Matterport from now until September 17.

Insta360 ONE R is great for shooting Matterport virtual tours because of its speed, which sets it apart from other virtual tour camera options.
